Serie A Matchday 1 ran from Saturday 22 to Monday 24 August 2026. Inter and Udinese began the programme, while Bologna v Lazio and Roma v Fiorentina completed the opening round on Monday.

An opening round is a clean slate for the ScoreSocial table but not a reason to abandon evidence. Start with venue and confirmed availability, then decide how much uncertainty a new season adds to each exact-score prediction.

Serie A Matchday 1 results and conclusion

All 10 fixtures are final in ScoreSocial's API-Football-backed record. Inter's home-win direction was correct, while Napoli and Cagliari both delivered the predicted away direction on Saturday. Juventus matched the 1-0 away forecast exactly at Frosinone; Lecce and Atalanta also supplied correct result directions, while Milan's 2-1 win at Torino went against the home selection.

FixtureJim's predictionVerified resultOutcome

Torino v Milan1-01-2Miss
Atalanta v Sassuolo1-02-1Correct result
Bologna v Lazio0-10-1Exact score
Roma v Fiorentina1-04-0Correct result

The completed round leaves the model on eight correct result directions from 10 fixtures, including three exact scores, and two misses. Lazio's 1-0 win at Bologna supplied the third exact score; Roma's 4-0 win over Fiorentina added another correct home direction. The original pre-kickoff predictions below remain frozen.

Coppa Italia and final fixture check — 21 August

Genoa supplied a strong late attacking signal by beating Ascoli 4-1 in the Coppa Italia on 16 August. Lazio moved in the opposite direction, losing 2-0 at home to Mantova in the tie listed by the official Lazio match centre. Those provider-verified results do not guarantee what happens against Napoli or Bologna, but they are more relevant than a July friendly and make both fixtures less comfortable to call.

The opening Coppa Italia programme involved Monza, Frosinone, Parma, Milan, Venezia, Udinese and Torino, so those competitive line-ups deserve more weight than July friendlies. The official Serie A referee appointments confirm the first-round card, while the league's dates and broadcast schedule keeps Inter v Monza and Udinese v Como as the opening fixtures on 22 August. Jim reviewed the full card before kickoff and changed only Udinese v Como; those archived scores remain unchanged.

Matchday 1 fixtures

Saturday 22 August

  • Inter v Monza
  • Udinese v Como
  • Genoa v Napoli
  • Parma v Cagliari

Sunday 23 August

  • Frosinone v Juventus
  • Venezia v Lecce
  • Atalanta v Sassuolo
  • Torino v Milan

Monday 24 August

  • Bologna v Lazio
  • Roma v Fiorentina

The dates and order were checked against Lega Serie A's official opening schedule. Use the in-app gameweek for the final UK deadline and recheck official information if a match moves. All clubs begin on zero points, so no 2026/27 league position or competitive Serie A form exists yet.

Opening baseline before Matchday 1

Previous meetings can help explain a fixture, but an old head-to-head sequence cannot account for a changed manager, promoted squad or summer transfer window. Confirm availability through official Serie A and club reporting before locking a score. This preview does not turn speculation or an unexplained absence into an injury claim.

What the summer has changed

Inter's 2-1 win at Karlsruher was more revealing for the manner than the opponent: Andy Diouf scored twice in stoppage time after a heavily changed side had trailed. Ivan Provedel's arrival from Lazio also gives the champions a genuine change in goal rather than a cosmetic squad addition.

The wider market has moved too. Fiorentina added Radu Dragusin and Arthur Atta, Torino brought in Gaetano Oristanio, and Venezia signed Thierry Correia and Albion Rrahmani. These are useful tactical clues, but new combinations generally need time before they deserve confident score margins.

Some friendly results were spectacular: Bournemouth beat Genoa 10-1, while Chelsea beat Milan and Brighton beat Roma by 3-0. They should prompt questions about readiness, not automatic opening-day defeats. Pre-season substitutions, workload and training priorities are too different from Serie A to support that leap.

Match-by-match preview

Inter v Monza

Inter begin at home in one of the two opening fixtures, making venue and established expectations the clearest starting evidence. The exact margin should still be checked against the confirmed attacking and defensive selections.

Udinese v Como

Udinese v Como shares the earliest kickoff window and therefore the prediction deadline. With no current league form, compare the available squads and resist presenting last season as a guaranteed continuation.

Genoa v Napoli

Napoli's away assignment is an early test of any preseason expectations. Genoa's home setting matters, and the score should reflect whether verified line-ups support control by one side or a closer contest.

Parma v Cagliari

This Saturday match may receive less attention than Genoa v Napoli, but it has equal value in a prediction table. Use venue and confirmed availability rather than forcing a strong lean from reputation.

Frosinone v Juventus

Juventus travel for their opener, so a familiar club name does not erase the away setting or first-round uncertainty. Historical meetings are secondary to the teams actually selected in August 2026.

Venezia v Lecce

Venezia v Lecce has no current table positions to compare. A restrained score can be sensible only when supported by a view of both attacks, not simply because the fixture is less prominent.

Atalanta v Sassuolo

Atalanta's home advantage provides a usable baseline, while Sassuolo's opening level must be judged from current evidence. Check official team updates before deciding whether either side merits a clean sheet.

Torino v Milan

Milan face a Sunday away match rather than a neutral reputation test. Consider Torino's venue, the confirmed line-ups and whether the proposed exact score assumes too much control from the visitors.

Bologna v Lazio

Monday begins with two established Serie A opponents but no 2026/27 form. Old head-to-head results can add context, though squad and coaching changes limit their direct predictive value.

Roma v Fiorentina

The closing fixture remains part of the Saturday deadline card. Confirm it is not left blank and use official late information available before lock, rather than planning to revise the pick on Monday.

ScoreSocial fixture predictions

These are Jim's final ScoreSocial predictions, recalculated on 21 August 2026 before Matchday 1. editorial-score-v2 now has API-Football prediction coverage for all ten fixtures, blends it with Scorebot's stored result probabilities and applies the same exact-score matrix throughout. They are opinions rather than guarantees.

FixturePredicted scoreWhy
Inter v Monza1-0H 49% / D 42% / A 9%; expected goals 0.80–0.20. Inter retain the home lean, but the model no longer assumes a two-goal margin.
Udinese v Como0-1H 10% / D 43% / A 47%; expected goals 0.20–0.75. Como's edge remains narrow and is best expressed as a single away goal.
Genoa v Napoli0-1H 14% / D 42% / A 44%; expected goals 0.30–0.75. Napoli lead, although Genoa's cup result keeps confidence low.
Parma v Cagliari0-1H 10% / D 43% / A 47%; expected goals 0.20–0.75. Cagliari replace the earlier draw after provider coverage became available.
Frosinone v Juventus0-1H 14% / D 42% / A 44%; expected goals 0.30–0.75. Juventus remain the away pick without the evidence for a two-goal margin.
Venezia v Lecce0-1H 18% / D 39% / A 43%; expected goals 0.40–0.80. Lecce have only a slight result edge, so the score is deliberately narrow.
Atalanta v Sassuolo1-0H 51% / D 42% / A 7%; expected goals 0.80–0.20. Atalanta retain the home result but move to the matrix's clean-sheet score.
Torino v Milan1-0H 35% / D 31% / A 34%; expected goals 0.80–0.80. This is effectively even; Torino receive the smallest possible home-result lean.
Bologna v Lazio0-1H 20% / D 40% / A 40%; expected goals 0.40–0.70. Lazio edge the tie-break, but the equal draw probability keeps confidence low.
Roma v Fiorentina1-0H 49% / D 39% / A 12%; expected goals 0.85–0.25. Roma's home probability is stronger than the earlier draw call.

All ten unplayed scores were replaced on 21 August using the same provider-backed probability-to-score process. This removes the previous manual-coverage inconsistency before kickoff.

Injuries and availability

A complete official injury picture is not yet available across all 20 clubs. Recheck Lega Serie A and club updates before the first kickoff, and keep unverified reports out of the prediction rationale.

Three matches to think through

Genoa v Napoli

This is one of Saturday's later fixtures and an early test of how predictors balance an away side's established expectations against the uncertainty of the first competitive league weekend. Avoid choosing the badge first and the score second.

Torino v Milan

Sunday's Torino v Milan fixture is another away assignment for a major club. Consider the likely shape of the match and whether your score requires one side to control possession, counter effectively or keep a clean sheet.

Roma v Fiorentina

The final fixture can feel detached from a Saturday deadline, but it carries equal weight in a ten-match prediction round. Confirm the Monday selections before submitting the full card rather than planning to return later.

What the evidence suggests for predictors

  • No side has current Serie A form. The opening table is level, so keep the evidence gap explicit.
  • Away favourites still need analysis. Napoli, Juventus and Milan all begin away from home.
  • Finish the Monday picks early. The whole matchday should be complete before the first Saturday fixture locks.
