Premier League Gameweek 2 is complete. The ten fixtures from 28–31 August 2026 produced four correct result calls, no exact scores and six misses for Jim. Final scores are reviewed below alongside the preserved pre-kickoff predictions. The original fixture schedule came from the Premier League's official 2026/27 fixture list.
The summaries were updated on 14 September to reflect the completed round. The table, form analysis and match previews retain the evidence available before kickoff; the prediction publication dates and scores have not changed. Jump to the final review or inspect the recorded results.
What matters this gameweek?
The useful pre-kickoff question was whether opening-week performances would survive a different opponent and venue. City strengthened the away case by winning 4-1 at Palace, while Hull and Newcastle also rewarded away predictions. Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Forest is a warning against treating Anfield as an automatic home banker; the club’s official report confirms another match in which both sides found a route to goal. Sunday carried the round’s biggest uncertainty. Brighton arrived at Chelsea after scoring four in their opener, Brentford visited Leeds after beating Spurs, and Manchester United needed a response against Ipswich. Monday’s Aston Villa-Arsenal finale pitted a side beaten 4-0 on opening weekend against one that had won 3-0. The official fixture list confirms the staggered schedule; late information improved the later review but could not reopen Friday’s ScoreSocial deadline. Each preserved margin therefore remains part of the pre-match record.
Final results and conclusion
Manchester City beat Crystal Palace 4-1 in the opener. Saturday then finished Liverpool 2-2 Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth 1-1 Everton, Coventry City 0-1 Hull City and Tottenham Hotspur 0-2 Newcastle United. Sunday produced Chelsea 4-3 Brighton, Leeds 1-1 Brentford, Sunderland 1-0 Fulham and Manchester United 5-2 Ipswich. Arsenal completed the round with a 1-0 win at Aston Villa on Monday. The ten finals were reconciled against ScoreSocial's API-Football-backed fixture record; Liverpool's official 2-2 match report supplies a club source for the early game, while Sky Sports' Aston Villa-Arsenal report verifies the finale.
Jim's preserved away calls were correct for Manchester City, Hull, Newcastle and Arsenal. The four Sunday predictions all missed: Chelsea won a seven-goal match rather than drawing, Leeds-Brentford drew, Sunderland edged Fulham and Manchester United reversed the forecast emphatically. The final record is four correct result directions from ten fixtures, with no exact scores and six misses. The original pre-kickoff calls remain unchanged in the public archive.
The first weekend produced decisive wins for Arsenal, Brighton, Brentford, Everton and Hull, plus Newcastle's draw with Liverpool. Chelsea completed the round with a 3-2 win at Fulham on Monday 24 August. Fulham's two goals matter for the next preview, but so does Chelsea finding a winning response after conceding twice.
What changed after Gameweek 1
Arsenal's 3-0 win over Coventry and Brighton's 4-0 win over Aston Villa were the clearest statements. Brentford also beat Tottenham 3-0, while Hull's 2-0 win over Manchester United immediately made two Gameweek 2 fixtures harder to price by reputation alone. Manchester City beat Bournemouth 2-1, Everton defeated Palace 2-0 and Chelsea edged Fulham 3-2.
Those are proper competitive signals, but one match is still a small sample. Jim has used the new editorial-score-v3 output as a disciplined starting point, then checked each direction against the opening result and the official schedule. The model labels all ten fixtures as thin evidence and no prediction is presented as certain.

Match-by-match read
Crystal Palace v Manchester City
Palace need a response after losing 2-0 at Everton. City won their opener but Bournemouth scored against them, so an away win is a lean rather than a clean-sheet guarantee.
Liverpool v Nottingham Forest
Liverpool recovered for a 2-2 draw at Newcastle; Forest lost narrowly to Leeds. Anfield shifts the balance towards Liverpool, but v3 separates home and away by only five percentage points.
Bournemouth v Everton
Bournemouth scored at City without taking a point. Everton arrive with a win and a clean sheet, which supports the model's narrow away edge without justifying a large margin.
Coventry City v Hull City
The promoted clubs had opposite opening nights: Coventry lost 3-0 at Arsenal and Hull beat Manchester United 2-0. Hull therefore have the stronger current evidence, although one round is not a settled trend.
Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle United
Tottenham's 3-0 defeat at Brentford is the most uncomfortable home signal in this round. Newcastle's draw with Liverpool was steadier, but v3 still places 39% on another draw.
Chelsea v Brighton & Hove Albion
Brighton's four-goal opening win is difficult to ignore. Chelsea now bring a 3-2 Monday win, but their shorter recovery and the two goals conceded keep this closer than a simple home-reputation pick.
Leeds United v Brentford
Both clubs won in Gameweek 1. Leeds did it away at Forest; Brentford scored three against Spurs. That makes a low-confidence away selection more cautious than the scoreline alone may suggest.
Sunderland v Fulham
Sunderland lost 2-1 at Ipswich. Fulham scored twice but lost 3-2 to Chelsea on Monday, leaving the visitors with less recovery time and evidence at both ends of the pitch.
Manchester United v Ipswich Town
United return home after losing at Hull, while Ipswich opened with a win. The model's away lean is deliberately flagged for review because Old Trafford and the tiny probability gap make this one of the round's clearest judgement calls.
Aston Villa v Arsenal
Villa conceded four at Brighton and Arsenal scored three against Coventry. The away direction is supported by current results, but Monday scheduling allows both managers time to change personnel.
ScoreSocial fixture predictions
These are Jim's pre-round predictions using editorial-score-v3. On 28 August, the score-selection stage was recalibrated so the expected goal total remains anchored to scoring evidence and the Premier League baseline instead of being pulled down by a large modelled draw percentage. It now reports a representative score close to the calibrated goal expectation when that remains a credible alternative to the single modal score. The Crystal Palace v Manchester City call is preserved exactly as published because its kickoff had passed before this review.
| Fixture | Prediction | V3 evidence and editorial read |
|---|---|---|
| Crystal Palace v Manchester City | 0-1 | H 13% / D 37% / A 50%; xG 0.60–1.20. Palace's opening defeat supports the medium-confidence away direction. |
| Liverpool v Nottingham Forest | 2-1 | H 42% / D 29% / A 29%. The revised goal-total calibration still gives Liverpool the home edge but no longer turns two teams with attacking evidence into an automatic 1-0. |
| Bournemouth v Everton | 1-2 | H 18% / D 35% / A 47%. Everton's opening clean sheet supports the away direction, while Bournemouth scoring at City makes a home goal credible. |
| Coventry City v Hull City | 1-2 | H 18% / D 34% / A 48%. Hull bring the stronger first result, but Coventry's home setting makes 1-2 more representative than another 0-1. |
| Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle United | 1-2 | H 17% / D 38% / A 45%. Tottenham's opening loss supports Newcastle, although the large draw share keeps this a one-goal away call. |
| Chelsea v Brighton & Hove Albion | 2-2 | H 23% / D 37% / A 40%. Editorial override: only three points separate the away and draw probabilities, and both opening matches produced strong scoring evidence. |
| Leeds United v Brentford | 1-2 | H 24% / D 36% / A 40%. Two opening winners meet; Brentford retain the slight direction edge without implying Leeds fail to score. |
| Sunderland v Fulham | 1-1 | H 25% / D 36% / A 39%. Editorial override: Fulham's away edge is only three points and their shorter recovery makes the draw the more balanced score call. |
| Manchester United v Ipswich Town | 1-2 | H 18% / D 35% / A 47%. Ipswich won and United lost, but the one-match sample keeps this to a single-goal away margin. |
| Aston Villa v Arsenal | 0-2 | H 17% / D 34% / A 49%. Arsenal's 3-0 start and Villa's 4-0 loss provide the clearest evidence for a two-goal away score. |
Availability and deadline checks
The Premier League's central injury list was updated on 26 August and is a starting point, not a substitute for late club updates. Chelsea and Fulham both have a short turnaround from Monday, while clubs involved in European qualifiers may have Thursday minutes to absorb. The fixture list and status were rechecked on 27 August; no postponement was shown and no unverified absence is labelled as confirmed here.
