Scottish Premiership Gameweek 2 is complete. Celtic moved top on goal difference after winning 5-1 at Kilmarnock, St Mirren retained a perfect record, Hearts produced the round's widest home win and Hibernian took three points at Ibrox.
The completed results are more useful than the pre-match assumptions this page originally recorded. They provide a second competitive data point, but two league matches still do not establish a dependable season-long trend. The safest conclusion for predictors is to update the evidence without overreacting to one large scoreline.

What changed during the round
Celtic supplied the strongest attacking evidence
Kasper Hogh scored a first-half hat-trick in Celtic's 5-1 win at Rugby Park, with Benjamin Nygren and Luke McCowan also scoring. The result moved the champions above St Mirren on goal difference.
Five goals are important evidence, but they should not become an automatic five-goal expectation for the next fixture. Opponent, venue, availability and the shape of the following match still matter.
Hearts changed the early goal-difference picture
Hearts responded to their opening defeat by beating Dundee United 4-0. Four different scorers were recorded by the SPFL: Tom Renaud, Calvin Miller, Claudio Braga and Josh McPake.
That is a materially stronger result than the opening weekend supplied, while Dundee United have now taken one point from two matches and carry a negative-four goal difference. Predictors should recognise the contrast without treating two games as settled form.
Hibernian overturned the pre-match home assumption
Hibernian won 2-1 at Rangers through Callum Wright's stoppage-time goal. Josh Campbell's early penalty had been cancelled out late before the decisive finish.
The result reinforces the earlier warning against assuming Ibrox automatically determines the outcome. Rangers remain on one point; Hibernian move into the group of five clubs on three points.
Dundee and St Mirren converted narrow contests
Dundee beat Aberdeen 2-0 and now sit fifth. St Mirren followed their opening victory with a 1-0 win over St Johnstone and remain the only club alongside Celtic with six points.
St Mirren's two wins have produced three goals and two clean sheets. That is useful early evidence of control, although the sample remains limited. Dundee's result also supports the pre-match view that recent meetings made the fixture less straightforward than Aberdeen's opening position suggested.
Motherwell and Falkirk supplied the low-scoring counterpoint
The goalless draw at Fir Park was the round's only match without a goal. Motherwell remain unbeaten on four points, while Falkirk earned their first point.
This matters because the six fixtures ranged from zero goals to six. Copying the highest-scoring match across an entire prediction card would ignore the very different evidence in the same round.
Predictor conclusions after Gameweek 2
- Celtic and St Mirren have the clearest early results. Both have six points, but their next opponent and any fixture disruption still need checking.
- Goal difference is moving quickly. Hearts rose to fourth and Celtic moved top through four- and five-goal wins; one later result can change the early order just as sharply.
- Away results remain possible in prominent fixtures. Hibernian's win at Rangers is a useful check against badge-first predictions.
- Do not turn two matches into a permanent form label. Current results deserve more weight than pre-season assumptions, but the sample is still small.
